Will I see the 2027 solar eclipse?
The Moon blacks out the Sun along a 260 km strip from southern Spain to Egypt and Saudi Arabia: up to 6 min 23 s of darkness. Check any town for totality, times and the chance of a clear view.

Just outside: don't get caught at 99%
These places get a deep partial eclipse but no totality. Even 99% leaves enough Sun to keep the day bright; the darkness, the corona and the stars only happen inside the path.

Partial eclipse: rest of Europe and beyond
Book early, with free cancellation
Rooms and tours inside the path sell out months ahead. Book something you can cancel, then watch the forecast in the last week. Luxor (the longest totality and the clearest skies), Cádiz and Tarifa are the easiest bases. Hotel links open with the nights of 1 and 2 August filled in.
Keep your eyes safe
Look at the Sun only through eclipse glasses or a solar viewer made to ISO 12312-2. Sunglasses are not enough, even at 99%.
Once the last bead of sunlight disappears, take the glasses off and look. Put them back on the moment the Sun's edge reappears.
Never point binoculars, a telescope or a camera lens at the partial Sun without a solar filter on the front.
The 2027 eclipse: questions
Monday 2 August 2027. In southern Spain totality comes at about 10:45 local time, in Luxor at about 13:02. The partial phases start about 80 minutes earlier.
In a strip about 260 km wide: the southern tip of Spain and Gibraltar, northern Morocco, northern Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Somalia. Everywhere else in Europe, Africa and the Middle East sees a partial eclipse. Check any place.
Near Luxor in Egypt: 6 min 23 s at the point of greatest duration, the longest total eclipse visible from land until 2114. Luxor itself gets 6 min 20 s. In Europe, the longest is around Tarifa (4 min 39 s).
Málaga, yes, but only 1 min 52 s: it sits near the northern edge. Seville, no: it is just outside the path with 98% of the Sun covered, which still leaves daylight. Drive south to Cádiz or Tarifa.
Only as a partial eclipse: 42% of the Sun covered in London at 10:00 BST, less further north. For totality, southern Spain is a short flight away.
Early August is one of the clearest times of year along the path, but not everywhere. From airport weather records, the chance of a clear view at eclipse time is about 97% in Luxor, 88% in Jeddah, 82% in Sfax, 73% in Málaga, 65% in Tarifa and 57% in Tangier. The Strait of Gibraltar and the Moroccan coast carry the most risk: morning low cloud off the Atlantic and the easterly levante.
No: 99% is covered in Hurghada, so it stays light. Totality starts about 65 km to the south-west; El Quseir and Marsa Alam on the Red Sea coast and Luxor on the Nile are inside it.
